New Divisions for the 2017 Tournament Season
We have some exciting news for this upcoming tournament season! This year the MKA will be adding THREE new tournament divisions.
(Competition for this division starts at 10:00 AM)
This division will be open to empty hand and weapons katas. Emphasis is placed on the quality of execution of techniques and movements, martial arts skills, balance, speed, power, degree of difficulty, and showmanship. If you are going to include music you will be required to provide your own sound equipment and must have it cued and ready to go when it is your turn to compete. Dress code must be adhered to at all times during the performance of the kata (check the rules for dress code). We will offer a state champion and runner-up titles for this division.
This division will be based on traditional forms. Teams must consist of at least two people and no more than three people. Teams must create a team name and fill out a registration form at the beginning of the season. Once registered, there will be no substitutions of team members throughout the season. We will allow for one alternate to be registered with the team in case an original member can't make a tournament. Judging and kata requirements will adhere to traditional kata rules (therefore, no music), however, there will also be an strong emphasis on how closely the team members were in sync. We will offer a state champion and runner-up titles for this division.
